Last week’s American Horror Story premiere had a scene that ties in nicely with one of my “scary moments”, and since I promised to share those this month, here it is.
One summer in L.A., I decided to meet friends at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for the movie series they show on the lawn. Basically, you drive in and park, walk over to the lawn, and picnic/listen to a DJ and wait for the movie to start after the sun goes down. I came alone and thought I paid attention to where I parked, but things look much different after dark. (Even palm trees seem sinister.) After the movie (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in case you’re wondering), I left my friends and headed in the general direction of my car, with security reminding everyone, “Keep off the graves!” “Don’t step on the graves!”. I know it didn’t happen this quickly, but it seemed like one minute I was following the crowd and the next I was all alone with no cars in sight. It seemed like I was going further and further into the cemetery and this was pre-GPS on phones. I had no idea where I was and I was surrounded by gigantic angels and crypts. Mentally, I was running through everything in my purse that could act as “Mr. Pointy” because it was starting to feel very Buffy, and not in a fun “I’m an extra on set!” kind of way. Somehow I must have looped back around to the front gate, where my car was now visible as the only one on the street. Sadly, Gaga and Matt Bomer did not find me and invite me back to their hotel.
If you live in L.A. and you’ve never been, this is one of those things you have to experience at least once. Here’s the info. I just recommend knowing where you park. And bringing a buddy.
Kingdom (9/8c DIRECTV) – I have to be honest-I don’t know anything about this show except that it’s about MMA and Nick Jonas is in it.
