Goosebumps, Spies & Haunted Mansions

This weekend is another “freebie” for HBO and Cinemax if you have DIRECTV, so go ahead and binge on that first season of The Knick before the premiere Sunday night.  And Saturday night on HBO you can catch Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo at 10/9c, her first comedy special for the channel.  She brought her A-game to SNL last weekend and her Comedy Central show is always clever, so I can’t wait to see what she does without the network constraints!

I’ve decided to add an “opening this weekend” section on Fridays and a DVD section on Tuesdays for popular new releases, so hopefully you can get all of your TV & movie news in one place.  Please feel free to leave me a comment if there’s anything else you’d like to see on this blog!

Returning tonight:

The Knick (10/9c Cinemax) – Clive Owen and Steven Soderbergh seems like a winning combination.

Please Like Me (10/9c Pivot) – I have no idea what this channel is (hell, I’m just now discovering Audience and POP, so I must be behind), but I hear lots of buzz over this show that’s now in its third season.

New shows:

Truth Be Told (8:30/7:30c NBC) – This is your standard sitcom fare, but I’m kinda excited to see Mark-Paul Gosselaar again, not gonna lie.

Opening this weekend:

Goosebumps  PG  (Jack Black, Dylan Minnette) The Goosebumps series took off in the 90’s, so there’s a big age group that grew up with these stories and will most likely be the target audience for this film, along with the kiddos still reading these.  Jack Black plays R.L. Stine, the author of the series, and the plot revolves around his characters from the various books.

Bridge of Spies  PG-13  (Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan) Steven Spielberg directs this Cold War spy thriller.  Hanks and Spielberg typically do outstanding work together, so if you’re into historical drama, this one should be good.

Crimson Peak  (Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam) This visually stunning horror movie has a great cast and looks like it will deliver the fright.  (I can barely watch the trailer!)

Next week ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween begins!  We’re getting closer, people!
