It’s Monday and I’m trying to embrace my erratic part-time work schedule, so today is a catch-up-on-shows-and-make-banana-bread kind of day. This sounds marvelous, right? Who wouldn’t want to be watching TV during the day on a Monday, and baking delicious things?! Me.
My current circumstances were fun for maybe six months, but now I’m just restless and eager to be doing “the next thing”. I’m trying to, if not enjoy exactly, roll with how my life is right now. I know I’m moving…I just don’t know when. Or where. I know I need to get back into a full-time position…I just don’t have any current opportunities within my field in this small town. Oh yeah, and I don’t know where I’m going or when…
Do I go backwards, back to cities I previously lived in and have an idea of what to expect, good and bad? Or, do I move forward, somewhere new, and hope that this place has opportunities for all of the things that are important to me, and fits where I am in my life now? No, I’m asking. Really! Please, someone else make this decision for me.
Since we can’t solve this dilemma today, let’s go ahead and talk entertainment, shall we?
New & Returning Shows This Week:
Monday: Jane the Virgin (yay!)
Wednesday: Chance, Presidential Debate (if you have the stomach for another one)
Thursday: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (yay! FOX at 8/7c)
Friday: Black Mirror, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Vampire Diaries, Midnight Diner
Sunday: The Walking Dead, Keeping Up With the Kardashians (cringe!)
Last Week’s Premieres:
We are deep into Fall TV and I don’t have time for “meh” shows, so you have until the first commercial break to wow me. I’m ruthless by this point. That said, almost all the new shows last week did grab me.
American Housewife (Comedy/Sitcom) – Watch. Funnier than I expected it to be, mostly because of Katy Mixon. All the fat talk was annoying (especially since she’s lovely and not at all “fat”) but it made sense for the plot, so I’ll let it slide. Also, the “two Fitbits” made me giggle..a lot. I’ll stick with this one for a bit.
Channel Zero: Candle Cove (Horror/Mini-Series) Watch…just not in the dark! I basically had emoji scared face the entire time. If you’re looking for some Halloween programming, start recording this series on SyFy immediately. CREEPY.
Falling Water (Sci/fi/Drama) Skip. Lots of familiar faces, but beyond boring. Remember that “grab me by the first commercial break” thing? Not so much. Plenty of WTF?! moments, and I still didn’t care.
Eyewitness (Drama/Crime) Watch! I almost didn’t record this because USA has let me down many times, but I’m so glad I did. I’m a big Julianne Nicholson fan, and this series doesn’t disappoint with the mystery and characters. I’m already hooked.
Final Thoughts for the Week:
Shows I’m loving: No Tomorrow, This Is Us, Westworld, Pitch, Timeless–all had excellent 2nd and 3rd episodes.
Shows I’m trying really hard to love, but barely hanging on: Designated Survivor, The Good Place
Shows I ditched this season & haven’t looked back: Blindspot, Quantico, Scream Queens, Arrow, The Blacklist
Favorite movies of the fall so far:
Bridget Jones’s Baby – Ding fucking dong! Loved the mix of nostalgia and fresh faces. I have missed Renee! I don’t know why it didn’t do well at the box office, because it’s the best rom-com I’ve seen in a long time…like, since the first film. Also, there was a collective swoon in the audience when Colin Firth walked across the screen in a suit. He’s still got it.
The Girl on the Train – Wickedly good adaptation. Even if you know the twists, you’ll enjoy the dark atmosphere and amazing performances. I wish they had filmed in England, but I understand why they moved the setting to New York…it still works, I’m just a big Anglophile.
‘Till next time!
